Honouring PC Rosie Prior
Path 2 Patrol is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Police Constable Rosie Prior of North Yorkshire Police.
On Saturday 11th January 2025, PC Prior paid the ultimate sacrifice whilst off duty having stopped to help another member of the public who's vehicle had broken down on the A19 at Bagby in North Yorkshire, whilst standing on the verge, both PC Prior and Mr Welford who was the driver of the Broken down Vehicle were struck by a lorry. Sadly both PC Prior and Mr Welford died at the scene.
The Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police, Tim Forber, paid tribute to PC Prior stating, "Ms Prior had join North Yorkshire Police more than two years ago because she wanted to help people"
"Rosie epitomises the very best of British Policing, she put the safety of others before her own safety"
"She got out and like many police officers up and down the country put herself on duty."
He said his thoughts were with the family of Mr Welford and that it was a "deeply traumatic and heart-breaking event for everyone involved".
PC Prior joined North Yorkshire Police back in 2022 where she worked as a response officer in York, PC Prior's family described her as "a loving mum, wife, daughter, sister, aunty and will be deeply missed"
